The Huddersfield Lions Club was formed in 1956
The first President was Douglas Avison who worked with the then President of Bradford Lions to form the Huddersfield Club
The Club has met at various venues throughout its life starting at the George Hotel and are now meeting at the Lindley Liberal Club 36, Occupation Rd, Lindley, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD3 3EQ.
Huddersfield was the 22nd club formed in the UK and has helped to form 5 other clubs namely Manchester, Crewe and Nantwich, Holme Valley, Colne Valley and Brighouse.
We are part of Lions Clubs International which was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1917 by insurance agent Melvin Jones and others. Lions are members of community service clubs, dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. More than 43,000 strong, these local clubs are part of the world’s largest such organisation, with 1.4 million members serving in more than 180 countries and areas. The association is both non-political and non-sectarian.
We celebrated our 60th Anniversary in 2016
